Through a focus on wellbeing, relationships and personal development, pupils learn to understand themselves, build positive connections and make safe, informed choices. They are supported to develop resilience, responsibility and respect for others.
By the time pupils leave us, our pupils develop independence, become confident and well-prepared to manage their wellbeing or know how to ask for help with this, build positive relationships and navigate the wider world.

RSE
At Leycroft Academy, our Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curriculum is carefully adapted to meet the needs of all learners, including those with complex autism. We follow statutory guidance and ensure that all learning is delivered in a safe, inclusive and developmentally appropriate way. We recognise that every child develops differently, and therefore we take a stage not age approach, ensuring learning is personalised, meaningful and suited to each pupil’s level of understanding.
Our teaching is highly supportive, structured and sensory-aware. Pupils are given repeated, consistent opportunities to explore relationships, emotions and personal wellbeing in ways that are accessible to them—whether through visual supports, sensory stories, communication systems or practical experiences. We place a strong emphasis on developing communication, enabling pupils to express their needs, feelings and choices safely and confidently.
Through this approach, pupils learn about positive relationships, personal boundaries and staying safe in a way that respects their individual needs. Predictability, routine and trust are central to our teaching, helping pupils feel secure when engaging with sensitive topics.
We value strong partnerships with families. Parents and carers are welcome to speak with the school at any time for further information about our RSE curriculum. We also share resources and offer a workshop in Year 4, when pupils begin more specific RSE learning, to ensure families feel informed and supported.
By the time they leave Leycroft Academy, our pupils have developed the foundational skills appropriate to their stage of development. They are supported to communicate their needs, build positive connections and make safe, informed choices, equipping them for the next stage of their journey with confidence and dignity.
