Celebrating World Book Day

This week we’re celebrating World Book Day, which provides a fantastic opportunity for our children to share with us their favourite books, whether it’s an epic fantasy adventure or an encyclopaedia! This week we’re celebrating World Book Day, which provides a fantastic opportunity for our children to share with us their favourite books, whether it’s an epic fantasy adventure or an encyclopaedia! Books are a great way to learn about the world around us, spark our imagination and further our understanding of topics that interest us.

We have an extensive collection of books at Leycroft Academy in order to cater to our diverse range of pupils, each with their own unique reading preferences and capabilities. There really is something for everyone when it comes to books, and we love being a part of each child’s reading journey.

To celebrate World Book Day this year each class has been assigned a character from the Mr. Men and Little Miss books. The classes and their character are as follows:

  • Penguins – Little Miss Sunshine
  • Whales – Little Miss Inventor
  • Dolphins – Mr Nosey
  • Starfish – Little Miss Splendid
  • Wolves – Mr Slow
  • Polar Bears – Mr Happy
  • Seals – Mr Messy
  • Owls – Little Miss Neat
  • Squirrels – Mr Tall
  • Foxes – Mr Bump
  • Hedgehogs – Little Miss Late
  • Butterflies – Mr Tickle
  • Ladybirds – Little Miss Princess
  • Elephants – Mr Silly
  • Zebra – Mr Strong
  • Lions – Mr Bounce

The children can either dress up in whatever book character they would like or dress in the colours of their class character.

There will also be lots of activities planned in school so there will be lots of fun to be had!!

If you’d like to know how you can get involved at home, you can find resources for families here: https://www.worldbookday.com/families/

We look forward to a brilliant week celebrating books!

World Book Day fun!

We had lots of fun with our Mr and Little Miss theme on World Book Day.

Each class had a character that they looked at and completed fun activities about!

We also had one of our teaching assistants, Natalia run a Sherbourne Developmental Movement session linked to the Gingerbread Man which all the children enjoyed.

Francesse, our literacy lead and the events team set up lots of activities in the hall for the children to take part in such as building a tower like Mr Strong and cleaning up after Mr Messy!

A fun day had by all – thank you to all the children and families for supporting our great day!!
